Cheshire West & Chester: First local authority housing built in nearly 40 years

Keepmoat Homes have completed the first phase of nearly 130 new council homes to be built in nearly 40 years at their Woodford Grange site in Winsford.

Contract Ecology Ltd aided Keepmoat to break ground on site by installing their amphibian exclusion fencing and trapping apparatus thus allowing their ecological consultants to ensure all amphibians resident on the former school site were moved into their new habitat prior to works commencing.

New habitat was provided by Contract Ecology Ltd through the creation of several large hibernaculas on land set aside for biodiversity improvements in situ.

The former Woodford Lodge high school site has 401 new homes planned for its vast grounds.  And it’s not the first school site Contract Ecology have been commissioned to provide their services on.

The company has quite a catalogue of surveying and contracting experience on both active and defunct school sites with diversification for new academies most often investing in enhanced sports facilities.  Our team have been on hand to assist with biodiversity provision through the planning process.

With the ecological value of the site rated as low prior to construction works, due to its former developed land use, we are confident that by working with Keepmoat Homes and their ecological advisors Avian Ecology, Contract Ecology Ltd can help enhance the retained natural areas to increase this sites value to biodiversity.
