CEL were commissioned to identify and translocate over 300 plant specimens listed as rare or vulnerable in the red data book of vascular plants at the former ICI plant in Thornton, Lancashire. In conjunction with the Senior County Council Ecological Advisors, CEL have managed to translocate a list of species including Bee Orchids, Marsh Orchids, Hairy Buttercup, Common Cudweed, lesser centaury and yellow wort. A soil stripping and storage exercise was also undertaken with high value seed bank soil being retained for future topsoil re-use in a native landscaping scheme at the site. Monitoring of the translocated plants will continue annually until 2010.
