Bovis Lend Lease, Global Renewables Ltd, (W2R LLP)
Key Services:
CEL were commissioned by W2R LLP to undertake a water vole survey at land adjacent to the former ICI plant in Thornton, Lancashire in Summer 2007. A 200m section of watercourse needed to be diverted to allow for a new highway junction to be constructed servicing the proposed waste technology park. CEL have worked in close conjunction with Bovis lend Lease and the Environment Agency in the design and implementation of a suitable water vole exclusion strategy and capture programme, which has included the supply and installation of water vole exclusion fencing, habitat removal and species trapping. All voles captured were transported to Chester Zoo for over-wintering whilst a total of 360m of new water vole habitat with subsequent native planting scheme was created on neighbouring land.
