Legal protection is afforded to all species of British bats, making it an offence to kill, capture, or disturb them, or to damage, destroy or obstruct access to their roosts. Bats may be encountered in a variety of localities such as buildings of all sizes, shapes, environs and levels of structural intregrity, bridges, underground spaces and trees.
Commonly, bats use differing roost types throughout the seasons and hibernate in winter. It is crucical that timing of survey works are selected appropriately to reflect the continual changes in usage in order to avoid delays in planning submission and project development.
